5th Annual Boston Expect Miracles Kan Jam and Cornhole Classic

Wednesday, August 21, 2019
9OFS | 1 Federal St., Boston, MA

On Wednesday, August 21, over 100 young professionals came together at 9OFS for Boston's 5th Annual Expect Miracles Foundation Kan Jam and Cornhole Classic. Eight Kan Jam and fourteen Cornhole teams committed to this year's fundraising goal for cancer research and The Samfund, Expect Miracles Foundation's newest program that provides financial assistance to young adult cancer survivors.

Thanks to the efforts of all our teams, sponsors, volunteers, and spectators, this year’s tournament raised over $25,000! And a special thank you to our Premier Sponsor: Income Research + Management, Tournament Sponsor Eaton Vance, Bar Sponsor RenovoMD, and Bracket Sponsor Polen Capital. Another huge thank you to the highest fundraising teams, IR+M, led by YPEM Leadership Team Vice President, Chelsea Gavitt from IR+M with a team fundraising total of over $5,200, and Disc Jockeys led by YPEM member Chas Goodman from State Street with a team fundraising total of over $3,450!

Teams of 2-4 battled for the trophies in the Kan Jam and Cornhole competitions while spectators relaxed and enjoyed additional activities. Throughout the evening it was easy for players and spectators to stay hydrated with a variety of drinks from Everybody Water and Hydralyte and a selection of alcoholic options provided by Bud Light, Claffey's Frozen CocktailGoslings Rum, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

No one went hungry thanks to the large variety of food from our generous vendors: Anna's Taqueria, Barlow's, Boston Kitchen Pizza, Dino's, Florina's PizzeriaKind Bars, Mi Nina Tortilla Chips, Regina Pizzeria and Siete Grain Free Chips.

Guests tried their luck in the chance table to win some great prizes such as a trip to Caesars Entertainment in Las Vegas, a gift card to Warby Parker, a CHIPPO board set, and various gift cards to restaurants and workout studios. Congrats to all the winners!

During the halftime speaking program, Expect Miracles Foundation thanked the event supporters, volunteers, vendors and sponsors. Frank Heavey, Executive Director, introduced Samantha Watson, Managing Director of Stewardship, Founder of The Samfund, to speak about where everyone's fundraising efforts are going towards. To further explain The Samfund's amazing mission, Sam introduced Michele Rhee, a Samfund grant recipient to share her story with The Samfund. The speaking program ended by awarding Chelsea Gavitt and Chas Goodman for being the highest fundraisers and perfectly representing the life-saving mission of Expect Miracles Foundation.

Congratulations to the top Kan Jam and Cornhole teams who walked away from the night with bragging rights and trophies! This year the honor of Kan Jam Champion went to team IR+M. This was after a close match with Caesars Gladiators who came in second. In third place was Lord Jeff's Brunch Brigade 1. From the Cornhole tournament team Space Jam took home the championship trophy for first place beating out the Lord Jeff's Brunch Brigade 2 followed by Team Eagle in third place.

As always, special thank you to our amazing volunteers who donated their night to help support Expect Miracles Foundation and the fight against cancer. We couldn’t do it without you! We've had amazing events and fundraising efforts hosted by YPEM this year. Expect Miracles Foundation is so grateful to all of the generous companies and individuals who support us. If you did not get a chance to donate, but still wish to do so, you can donate here.
