2nd Annual Atlantic Coast Classic Highlights

September 24, 2019

The weather was perfect on September 24 as Expect Miracles Foundation hosted more than 200 guests at the 2nd Annual Atlantic Coast Classic at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club in Bedminster, NJ for a wonderful day of golfing, networking, and fighting cancer. For the second year, the financial services industry led by Foundation Sponsors BNY Mellon and Eagle Investment Systems, took over both courses at Fiddler's Elbow. The event's success was greatly attributed to Expect Miracles Foundation's Corporate Sponsors and the firms that sponsored a hole at the tournament. With representatives from over 70 financial firms, the industry was out in force to support The Foundation’s life-saving mission.

Guests enjoyed 18 holes of golf featuring exciting contests and on-course offerings including a great selection of craft drinks generously provided by Hunterdon Brewing Company. After a great day of friendly competition on the links, the participants enjoyed a lovely reception back at the clubhouse. The evening was emceed by Duncan Schieb, who kicked off the evening with an exciting live auction of a trip to Punta Mita, Mexico, a trip to Aruba, 2020 Masters tickets, Patriots vs. Jet’s tickets, and more!

Frank Heavey, Executive Director of Expect Miracles Foundation, was welcomed to the stage to explain the mission and purpose of Expect Miracles Foundation and express how gracious The Foundation is for all of the support from sponsors, participants, and volunteers. Frank shared the exciting news that as of July 1, The Samfund, a nonprofit that provides grants to young adult survivors for everyday expenses like rent, medical bills, and health and wellness, became a program of Expect Miracles Foundation.

Duncan Schieb challenged the guests to see if they could raise an additional $10,000 through a text to pledge platform to support cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In just a few minutes the generous attendees hit the $10,000 goal and unlocked a $10,000 match generously donated by Hennessy Funds - we are so thankful for the overwhelming support.

Founder and Chairman, Frank Strauss, then took the stage to express his appreciation for all who made this and every Expect Miracles Foundation event such a success. He continued by sharing the amazing evolution of The Foundation over the past 25 years sharing that Expect Miracles Foundation's life-saving mission hit a major milestone this spring when we awarded our ten millionth dollar! What started as a friends and family golf tournament has transformed into a non-profit that rallies the financial services industry to invest in life-saving cancer research and advance the financial and emotional health of people impacted by cancer. Strauss also extended a sincere thanks to the Miracle Makers Leadership Council and to The Foundation's loyal corporate sponsors who sponsor all 5 major events.

Next, Frank Strauss presented Paul Torre of AST Fund Solutions with the CJ Award. Named in honor of Christopher McAllister, a strong and passionate pediatric cancer patient, the CJ Award is given to an individual or company that best exemplifies the humble, yet determined spirit of Chris, while generously donating their time to fight the worthy battle against cancer. Frank thanked Paul for his support and commitment to Expect Miracles Foundation through attending all our events, being a loyal Miracle Maker, and making a huge impact behind the scenes. Congratulations Paul!

Next, Director of Development & Events, Maggie Dombroski announced two upcoming Expect Miracles’ events: the 16th Annual Wine & Spirits Event on November 14 in Boston and the 6th Annual Expect Miracles in Manhattan Event on February 4, 2020 in New York City. She then presented a special Recognition Award to a group of supporters who donated countless hours raising an Expect Miracles racing team record of over $75,000 while training for the Boston Marathon. Luci Strauss-Garren from Goldman Sachs, Matt Mackay from JP Morgan, Jamie Waldecker and Frank Heavey from Expect Miracles Foundation. Thank you!

This great event would not have been such a success if not for the generous support of amazing volunteers who worked a long day, the incredible event partners, all our guests, sponsors and donors. Thanks for another great tournament in support of our mission! We look forward to seeing you at the next event!
