With support led by Foundation Sponsors BNY Mellon and Eagle Investment Systems, guests enjoyed a high-end football tailgate featuring country-rock music from BackYard Swagger. Attendees networked with old friends, new colleagues, and industry peers. Throughout the night, guests had the opportunity to enjoy delicious food from the House of Blues, purchase raffle tickets, bid on auction prizes and take a spin on the spin wheel, vying for prizes like a trip to Las Vegas, Sports Memorabilia, Patriots tickets, and more!

Guests turned their attention to the stage for the night’s speaking program. Expect Miracles Foundation Board Members Christine Gill, BNY Mellon, and Scott FitzGerald, State Street, kicked off the presentation, welcoming everyone, thanking all The Foundation’s sponsors and recognized the generous 180 members of Expect Miracles Miracle Makers Leadership Council.

Gill presented this year's Judy Award, given in honor of the Foundation’s first volunteer, Judy Strauss, to individuals who best demonstrates Judy's altruism while generously volunteering their time and energy for the good of Expect Miracles Foundation. Gill stated, “The two recipients of the award both have volunteered at the Wine & Spirits Event for the last 8 years, one is a Miracle Maker, and they both show amazing support of our mission!” Congratulations, Nancy Harrington and Rupert Thomas from BNY Mellon!

After an exciting live auction, Frank Heavey, Executive Director, and Samantha Watson, Managing Director of Stewardship and Founder of The Samfund, took the stage to remind everyone of the importance of the funds being raised at the event in support of the Foundation’s strategy of Cure & Care, which fund life-saving research at Dana-Farber’s Belfer Center, and help young adults surviving cancer who are facing the financial impact of this disease. Heavey shared the story of industry colleague Dan and how his mother is successfully fighting non-small cell lung cancer thanks to Tagrisso, an immunotherapy developed by Dana-Farber and The Belfer Center thanks in part to funding from Expect Miracles Foundation. Dan’s mom is doing so well that she got to dance with her son at his wedding, and meet her new granddaughter, Marianne.

Watson introduced Vanessa, a survivor of stage 3 non-Hodgkins lymphoma. After her treatment, Vanessa struggled financially. Vanessa was able to move forward when she received two Samfund grants: one to help pay her health insurance which allowed her to afford to go to nursing school, and the second grant to help with the costs of fertility preservation. Today, Vanessa is neurology nurse at an Atlanta hospital, and the proud mother of a 6-month old baby boy.

Maggie Dombroski, the Foundation’s Director of Development and Events, gave accolades to the Young Professionals Expect Miracles (YPEM) groups in Boston and New York for raising over $150,000. For the third straight year, Maggie presented the Kanley Cup to the Boston Young Professionals for raising the most money this year.

Heavey presented the Foundation Award, given in recognition of a company's outstanding commitment to Expect Miracles Foundation in leading the financial industry in the noble fight against cancer, to Confluence for its corporate leadership, generous support of its executives, and broad support from its employees. Todd Moyer, President of Confluence, accepted the Foundation Award on behalf of his colleagues, remarking how proud he is to be a part of the financial industry’s support of Expect Miracles Foundation.

Founder and Chairman of Expect Miracles Foundation, Frank Strauss, continued the event’s tackle cancer theme by coming to the stage dressed as one of the greatest football coaches, Bill Belichick. Strauss spoke about the major milestones Expect Miracles has celebrated this year, including awarding our ten millionth dollar, celebrating the 25th Anniversary East Coast Classic, and launching a new chapter by merging with The Samfund. He then welcomed the Board's Event Committee to the stage to present Dana-Farber's Belfer Center a record check for $1.2 Million dollars.

Thank you to our wonderful guests, sponsors, partners and volunteers – YOU are the Cure! You can check out and share photos from the event on our Facebook Page! We hope to see you at our next event, The 6th Annual Expect Miracles in Manhattan charity event on February 4, 2020 in New York City.
